In Character Information

character name: Elijah Mikaelson
Fandom: The Vampire Diaries
Timeline: 3x15 All My Children, end of the episode, with only Elijah, Klaus and Rebekah in the house, being all broody; (discovered that the white oak is once again, alive, and a potential weapon to kill them.)
character's age: a bit over 1000+ years, born sometime around the 10th century BC.

powers, skills, pets and equipment:
Elijah, as an Original, has all the abilities the other vampires in the TVD universe have, except since age governs strength, an Original’s abilities are much stronger than normal vampires’. Here’s a break down of what they can do:
-Super Strength- Originals are stronger than any normal vampire, werewolf, and especially, human.
- Super Speed- Originals are faster than any normal vampire, werewolf and human.
-Heightened Senses- Originals have extremely sharp senses of sight, hearing, smell and taste.
-Healing- When Originals are injured, they heal much faster than any normal vampire, werewolf or human.
Durability- In general, Originals can take more injury and physical trauma than any other being without much discomfort. Even when exposed to vervain, they recover faster than normal vampires, and wood doesn’t seem to weaken them for long.
-Mind Compulsion- Originals can compel (that is, pretty much mind control—they tell someone to go do something, or feed them a different memory, or make them forget, etc) any vampire, human, werewolf or hybrid.
-Vervain Detection- Originals seem to be especially good at telling whether or not a human or other vampire is indeed on vervain (a herb that typically weakens vampires, or protects the ones who take it from compulsion).
-Immortal- Originals are almost close to indestructible, and will live forever.
-Dream Manipulation- Vampires can control dreams and the subconscious (in a way that isn’t exactly explained). They can modify and produce dreams, nightmares or lucid dreams, even make one person’s reality distorted for some time.
-Emotional Control- Vampires can manipulate and control their own emotions, even can turn ‘off’ their humanity. It works like a switch for them. But the thing about emotions as a vampire, everything is amplified. Hate, love, hurt, etc.

personality:
To introduce, Elijah is one suave, classy and dangerous BAMF. He’s an Original, one of the oldest vampires, and as the label suggests, is one of the original vampires to be created.

He isn’t a major character, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a big personality. He is a very calm and, from all his actions, and how he handles himself, he almost seems to be quite a passive man. Almost. I think one of the things to point out is that he isn’t cruel, just simply indifferent. He isn’t above killing someone, and he has. Actually, with ease. But it’s not because he actually likes killing, it’s more of a way, one of the best ways to convey a message. He once said that he “won’t hesitate to kill [someone] once they cease to be useful to him, so that [someone] would be best advised to make sure to do whatever is asked of them”. That, I think, best sums up and best demonstrates Elijah’s attitude towards others.

Whatever it is that Elijah is doing, he executes with class, and elegance. But this calmness is actually, what makes him quite scary. He’s very good at hiding his intentions, and because of this cool exterior, is hard to actually analyze, and read. He wears a charming and almost unbreakable poker face, at least in most situations.

Another important thing to point out in Elijah’s personality is that he is a man of his word, but at the same time, has little respect (or, for that fact, care) for those who in return DON’T keep their word. The first time we saw Elijah was when Rose and Trevor were about to hand Elena over. Despite Rose’s assurance that he was a man of his word and would forgive Trevor and Rose, the Original took Trevor’s head clean off. Literally. But it should be pointed out that he spared Rose, explaining that she was loyal to her best friend Trevor, while the latter had no loyalty; he was a traitor, and Elijah places a lot of weight on honor. And it seems like, in his eyes, those who live without honor commit an offense worthy of death.
Elijah is one that does stick true to his word. Once he says it, he usually means it. That goes for promising someone will suffer, if they break their side of the deal. He made a few deals with Elena, that he is, in fact, capable of giving someone second chances, given that they prove themselves to him again. I think at first, he chose to humor Elena’s deals, although why he decided to go along with the other deals, even after she essentially, betrayed him, is more of a mystery.

But then, and moving on to another point, is his attitude towards Elena. I think it’s important to point out that that human girl, who was indeed useful to him as a tool in getting to Klaus, has gotten way too many second chances from Elijah. If it were someone, anyone else, I think they would’ve been more than lucky to get a single second chance. Elena has gotten at least two or three. Why exactly, isn’t exactly clear. Maybe at first, it is because of her resemblance to both Tatia, and then Katherine (the latter the original Petrova, and the latter, the first doppelganger), for whom Elijah did feel for, once. But also because I think he sees the honor and loyalty she holds towards those she cares about. As I said before, loyalty is something Elijah values very much.

But it also goes to show, that he is again, capable of forgiveness, and capable of giving the benefit of the doubt. To a point.

Family is a big thing to him. Including paying back for the death of his family by killing his half brother Klaus. But when Klaus gives Elijah the small hope that actually, their siblings have not been dropped into the depths of the sea, to be disposed of, and that, in fact, they were alive and to be reunited, Elijah trusted his brother, and that was when he, actually, broke his word with Elena. He was to kill Klaus after she gave her life in the sacrifice, but instead, he fled with him, choosing to trust his family over anyone else. His family is then, almost like an Achilles heel; he is ultimately loyal to them. But then, you could say karma’s a bitch, and he ends up being daggered by Klaus, and being ‘reunited’ with his other siblings, who met the same fate under Klaus.
Elijah’s loyalty to his family extends way back, to the beginning; he’s always been his brother’s right hand man, assisting Klaus in his search to break the sun-and-moon curse, but when he discovered (although falsely) that his siblings were all dropped in the ocean somewhere by Klaus (although Klaus didn’t do exactly that, Klaus DID dagger them, but intended to ‘reunite’ them in some sort of idealistic image he had created in his head), Elijah turned against Klaus, and intended to kill him during the ritual of the curse. Safe to say, Elijah holds a bitterness towards Klaus.
Once Damon awaken Elijah again, the Original at first, intends to make Klaus pay, removing the daggers of his other siblings. But then, once again, decided to humor Klaus in his intention to ‘reunite’ his family, but in actuality, he seems to be still be more than willing to plan against his brother, as seen by his willingness to amuse Damon in meeting him about a note the Salvatore left in Elijah’s pocket, to conspire against Klaus.
I think the main point in that ramble is that Elijah doesn’t take kindly to betrayal and disloyalty, and thus, there’s still a level of resentment towards him.
With the appearance of his mother Esther, the Original witch, one who he thought was also killed by Klaus, he is evidently suspicious of her willingness to forgive Klaus for his actions and how eager she seems to be to make sure her family is in fact, reunited. This suspicion is confirmed when he asks Elena to retell him what his mother wanted with her; simply put, he doesn’t trust this to be the ‘happy ending’ his mother seems to be trying to convey to all of them.

Elijah was referred to, by his mother, as the moral one, the one who doesn’t seem to be eager to kill; simply he doesn’t want to do what is not necessary. And, especially compared to the rest of his siblings, he is quite moral.
A curious thing to point out is that, as of yet, we are all still to see Elijah feed, or even show his vampiric side. And I think that’s actually what makes him quite terrifying, and not one you would want cross or tick off: that he doesn’t really seem to need to vamp-up in order to achieve something, or intimidate someone. He seems to take on the cool and collected approach over the tempered approach Klaus takes on. And hey, it works well for him, as he is backed up by his own honor, and sticking true to what he promises.
In the most recent episode, he used Elena to keep himself and his family alive, putting her in a dangerous situation in order to…give the Salvatore brothers a push, so to speak. But in the end, the interesting part was that he showed remorse what his actions, as he wrote a letter to Elena admitting his regrets. I think that was a surprisingly human thing to do, from a thousand year old vampire, and goes to show just how much Elijah values his own word, morals and is definitely not above seeing someone as something like a friend. ( Although, note, Elena is more of an ally to him than a friend, but they do have some unique, mutual understanding.)

And so, to conclude, the best way to condense his personality, although not entirely, as he a bit of an enigma of a character is that Elijah is one composed, classy BAMF.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?
Elijah has seen and survived for a very, very long time. I think it would be interesting to place him in yet another setting. But the difference would be that, the powers within this city can actually have an affect on him, something he isn’t exactly used to. It’s always interesting to see what natural character development would happen when even one of the strongest vampires is taken out of his element.

[ The feed flickers on, in video function, to first show a plain ceiling, before panning over to a man, in a button down shirt, his hair slightly disheveled, who looks nothing short of displeased. ]

[ He narrows his eyes at the device, almost with a look of distaste. ] Mm.

[ A light pause. ] I…find myself in an unnerving situation. I don’t know what this place is. Or where, for that matter.

Any information anyone can offer would be appreciated. [ The lines were delivered in rehearsed politeness, but carried no portrayal of what the speaker was feeling.
A brief pause, before giving the feed one last look before ending it without any other words.

Third Person Sample:
He was not a cruel man. No, he didn’t torture, or take particular pleasure in pointlessly going about killing. It was more that he was, strictly speaking, indifferent. Death was a necessary evil, for example. No, Elijah was not a cruel being, especially in comparison to his siblings; he was numbly impartial.
But with that, he was always a man of his word. He knew respect, and he gave it to those who deserved it. Lies, deception, breaking of trust hardly sat well with him.
A light sigh, as he carefully scanned the crowd within the hall. Of course, the party his mother had arranged was flawlessly grand. Fitting. And yet…her quick will to forgive Klaus unsettled him. As much as valued his family, something caused distrust. So at the sight of Elena, finally alone and away from her Salvatores, making her way to Esther, by his mother’s request, Elijah was quick to approach her.
“Elena,” a polite acknowledgement, eyes studying. “As I understand, my mother requested to see you?”
The girl didn’t hesitate to confirm. “Oh…yeah. Why? Is something wrong?”
The lightest of smirks, hand raised briefly, grazing her arm as a hint to halt her stride. “No. I simply find my mother’s…willingness so readily forgive Klaus…unsettling,” the lightest head tilt. “Can I trust you to tell me what my mother wanted from you?”
“Of course,” Elena nodded with a tight, almost nervous smile. Elijah’s own was slightly warmer, an unspoken ‘thanks’. With that, he let her go, returning to the main floor of the event.
He wasn’t too sure how long it’s gone by before Elena emerged again. Before approaching, he noted the slightly tensed expression on her face; she seemed to be thinking over something, as she looked up at Esther, who emerged to the staircase, to raise a toast.
“Elena,” a champagne glass at hand, he approached. “Well? What did my mother say?” A waiter has carried by two more glasses, filled with champagne of a rose color. Absently, Elijah replaced his current glass with the newly offered one, as did Elena.
When she didn’t reply, instead glancing back up at Esther, Elijah’s eyes narrowed. “Elena,” it was a more firm recall, making her focus back to him. “Should I be worried?”
A pause. His eyes nearly scrutinized her face, as the girl lowered her gaze briefly to her glass, before glancing back up. “No,” a smile. Forced, the Original noted. “She just wanted to apologize for trying to kill me earlier…”
She was lying. He knew it, as his acute senses caught the quickening pace of her beating heart. Deceived. Yet, Elijah showed no signs of knowing, as he took a sip from his glass, eyes carefully trained onto Elena, studying her once again. Of course, there was a tinge of annoyance, and a tinge of anger. Indeed, he had trusted her, and in her turn, she betrayed his trust.
Well, he’d have to find out what Esther really said to her. One way or the other. Perhaps in different circumstances, not within the ball. Still, Elena’s lie unnerved him to no end, that much he would readily admit.
Hell, he just might. But not right now. Offering her a brief, polite smile, he stepped away, jaw set.

Anything else? No, i don't think so? :)
